Square Enix will soon be holding a closed online test for Final Fantasy XV’s upcoming multiplayer expansion called Comrades. Players who have purchased the game’s $25 season pass and have either a PS Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription will be able to play the latest DLC next week from August 3 to 8.
Multiplayer in the World of Lucis
The Comrades” DLC will let players create their own Final Fantasy XV avatars and team up with friends to go on their own adventure. The preview will include multiplayer quests that the whole party can take part in. Weapons that can be used on the test version are limited to katanas, clubs, daggers, and shurikens. Players can interact with other party members using preset chat messages and voice chat.
The full version will unlock the game’s main characters: Noctis, Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto. It’s still not entirely clear whether Comrades takes place in a new area or the existing open world. No release date has been announced for the full version of the expansion.
Square Enix first announced the Comrades expansion last year but little has been revealed until recently. The publisher shared a screenshot of a character-creation system that was in development for the expansion. Director Hajime Tabata teased that player-created characters may be used in single-player as well. A future update to the Comrades expansion will give players the option to also play as Noctis and his friends.
