Currently, Tatsuki’s tweet has more than 300,00 retweets. In a span of 30 minutes after it was tweeted, it immediately got 100,00 retweets. The director apologized to the fans of the show and said that he was very disappointed about the turn of events. Also, the entire staff of the show has also been booted. The tweet below is a mistranslation. Kadokawa will be doing the show with a new crew.
i don't want to be the bringer of bad news but the whole staff has resigned and the show will be under kadokawa https://t.co/vUuZQZNIff

Why is a director being axed from the show a big deal? Tatsuki built the show from scratch. Kemono Friends was initially supposed to be a mobile game for Nexon which was abandoned. Tatsuki raised it from the ground and made it one of the most popular and highly rated anime of the Winter 2017 anime season.
Kadokawa has responded on the Kemono Friends website amidst the backlash. The reply stated that (translated using Google Translate):
Yao Yorozu Co., Ltd., who was in charge of animation production, had use of the work without information sharing and contact to all relevant parties. As a visualization project I wanted to ask for the next production, so we requested to normalize that we would like to share information in advance, but YaoYorozu Co., Ltd. can not accept that condition I wanted to decline, so it was an answer.
Essentially, the studio is citing the release of an Episode 12.1, doujins and other collaborations for axing Tatsuki. Tatsuki is being booted for creating and distributing content that was not approved. More information in this Reddit comment.
