We are weeks away from the 2D-style Sonic Mania from Sega. During San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, the publisher revealed yet another part of the puzzle. It is a glimpse of what we can expect from the bonus stages for the game – and they are nostalgic!
The Hunt For The Chaos Emerald
The Sonic Stadium took a snap of the screenshot shown during the talk from publisher Sega. The stages are said to be like those seen in the Sega CD and Saturn Sonic titles, and players will be chasing a UFO to collect a Chaos emerald, building up speed by running into blue spheres, and prolonging their time by collecting rings.
In addition, the team also shared in a tweet that the cutscenes for Sonic Mania will share inspiration with the design of Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Fans of said games will recognize the similar art style.

Sonic Mania is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Headcannon and PagodaWest Games. It is published by Sega for Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. In the game, the player controls Sonic the Hedgehog and his companions Tails and Knuckles as they venture to defeat their nemesis Doctor Robotnik.
The game was produced in commemoration of the Sonic the Hedgehog series’ 25th anniversary. The game looks like the game fans have been looking for since the Mega Drive’s end in the mid-90s. Thankfully, we don’t have long to wait to see all of these announcements being put into practice in the final game. It will be released worldwide in August.
